2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Release

It’s too soon to spray champagne celebrating the return of the manual transmission, but we should at least put a couple of bottles on ice. Our preferred gearbox certainly isn’t saved quite yet. But it does seem to have more of a future in sports cars than looked to be the case for at least the past decade, as makers conspired to send it the way of the drum brake, the ashtray, and the key that is actually a key.

Aston Martin has only ever offered the V12 Vantage S with a seven-speed single clutch automated manual from Graziano. The 2017 V12 Vantage S has that same gearbox, but with a very obvious change. The paddles are gone, replaced by a shift lever and a third pedal. It took a lot of work for it to happen since this may be the first time that an automated manual has been made into a true manual.

Like the V12 Vantage before it, the new S is the most raw and visceral model in the Aston Martin range, but with a boost in power and some serious updates it promises even more performance, and is even available in Roadster form as well.

When it debuted, Aston Martin referred to the V12 Vantage as an “unprecedented engineering achievement”.  Later, the automaker observed that they could have stopped there but they instead took their imagination a little bit further and went on to craft a more powerful variant of the V12 Vantage that features a lighter chassis and a more responsive transmission. The result is the V12 Vantage S which Aston Martin refers to as “the most ferocious Aston Martin” to ever come out of their factory. For 2017, Aston Martin has even gone old school to keep the model fresh in the minds of its enthusiasts.

2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Specs

2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Specs

Below we have summarized some of the reviews about the features of the car exterior and interior 2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S. The car is expected to be a comfortable car for the ride by the community.

The new 2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S comes with a manual gearbox but I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t bring the manual gearbox when the Vantage S was introduced in 2013. In fact, the Vantage S is the only V-12 powered car with a manual transmission. The reason behind the manual offering is so that drivers can get to enjoy driving the vehicle more, something that automatic transmissions rob the driver.

The exterior look of the V12 Vantage S comes unchanged from that of the 2016 model, reason being Aston Martin doesn’t want to fix something that is not broken.

As for the inside the V12 Vantage S comes with a lavish leather and Alcantara upholstery, electrically adjustable sports seats, climate control, cruise control, and Aston Martin’s infotainment system complete with sat nav, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and iPhone connectivity. But in our mind, the more hardcore character of this Vantage demands the available lightweight buckets. The perfectly positioned, correctly sized, and Alcantara-covered steering wheel carries over.

Like the exterior, the cabin is also largely unchanged from the 2016 model. Almost all surfaces are wrapped in premium leather. The seats are also wrapped in leather but there is an option for Alcantara. The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara.

Buyers can select either Light weight bucket-style design for the seats or a sports design. Buyers can also opt for one or a combination of the 20 contrast stitching colors offered. Its wide range  of a whopping 31 hues and 16 extra shades makes for infinite color combinations meaning buyers can customize the cabin to suit their unique tastes and preferences.

However, the automaker has added aerodynamic improvements to the model. These improvements include a huge front splitter, a sporty diffuser, sturdy side skirts and a host of carbon-fiber components. The result is a very light vehicle but not as light as its track-variant, the GT12.

This excellent exterior design though crafted in the early 2000 still looks fresh even in the midst of the new design language as showcased by the new DB11. Nonetheless, buyers looking for a more modern touch will love the optional Sport-Plus Package which features an option of five body colors. The package also features accent colors on the side sills, front grille, mirror caps and the rear diffuser.

2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Review

2017 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Engine

As you have already imagined, the V12 Vantage S is motivated by a V-12 engine. The mill is a 5.9 L, naturally aspirated engine which comes good with 565 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. However, as I said earlier, the engine comes with a new manual gearbox.

Replacing the 510bhp 5.9-litre V12 engine from the DBS is the revised AM28-spec 5.9 V12 that makes a staggering 565bhp at 6750rpm. Torque is up 27lb ft at its peak to 457lb ft and the curve is fattened up, especially at the bottom, where 376lb ft is available from just 1000rpm.

The 5.9 liter V12 is the last of its kind, no turbos, start-stop, cylinder deactivation, or other fuel saving tech here. This is just pure gas guzzling feel goodery that ascends to the rev range heavens with absolutely no issue. It also feels totally different than a V12 from Ferrari or Lamborghini. Those engines can be manic, shouty, ferocious. The Aston’s power delivery is smoother and feels more dignified, more baritone than hyper soprano. But it still makes 565 hp, which, if you were thinking otherwise, is a considerable amount of power.
