2017 Infiniti QX70 hybrid

Formerly called the FX, the 2017 Infiniti QX70 makes some deliberate sacrifices for style and performance to be one of the most driver-focused crossovers available. It’s certainly dated up against fresher rivals, but the QX70 focuses instead on delivering excellent driving dynamics in a way matched by few other vehicles of its ilk.

Setting the Joneses’ curtains twitching are new dark chrome details for the grille, foglight surrounds and side air scoops, a new smoked finish for the headlights, black door mirrors and roof rails, and massive 21in six-spoke alloy wheels in, er, black.

The Infiniti QX70 was first released in 2003. Back then, going by the FX moniker, the luxury model from Nissan’s luxury brand used to rule the new luxury crossover market segment.  Its unique exterior profile made it outstanding among the competition. However, the segment has since been overcrowded as automakers strive to get a piece of it. In a bid to take back the helm of the segment once more, Infiniti has hooked its QX70 crossover with extensive redesign including a special package.

The way Infiniti spins it, the QX70 has historically been a popular model in the greater New York area, so it only made sense to introduce the 2017 Infiniti QX70 Limited at the 2016 New York auto show. Essentially a gussied-up version of the same mid-size crossover that the company once likened to a “bionic cheetah” and a “giant scarab,” the new top-of-the-line QX70 Limited focuses on enhanced interior comfort and unique styling that sets it apart from lesser QX70s.

2017 Infiniti QX70 Changes

Aging but still worthy, the QX70 stands out with an eager powertrain, bold styling, and responsive handling. We tested it when it was still called the FX and had the 3.5-liter V6, which got 18 mpg overall. Since then, the engine was upgraded to a 3.7-liter V6. Body roll is well-suppressed, although the QX70 isn’t exactly nimble, and it rides rather stiffly. The roomy cabin is well-finished and mostly quiet, except for the loud engine. But the curvy styling hurts visibility and robs cargo space. A wide array of optional safety features includes automatic emergency braking. The useful surround-view camera system gives a bird’s-eye view while parking.

2017 Infiniti QX70 Specs

Below we have summarized some of the reviews about the features of the car exterior and interior 2017 Infiniti QX70. The car is expected to be a comfortable car for the ride by the community.

The cabin of the 2017 Infiniti QX70 has a special styling compared to standard models. The interior has a Graphite and Stone color theme. This theme features a dark graphite color while stone colored inserts are fitted on armrests, on the center of the seats as well as outside the edge of the seats. Its leather seats also feature a stone-colored stitching.

Though its interior is heavy on buttons, it is dramatically-styled and features a mix of leather, piano black lacquer, and wood trims that feel old-world in a positive, classic sort of way. The QX70 doesn’t use Infiniti’s latest infotainment or dashboard layout, but it is conveniently-arrayed and its dual cowl-style dashboard has aged very well.

We understand that this design will expand to the rest of the QX70 lineup. Its fog lights have also been altered. The new lights are horizontal in shape and feature LED lighting. In comparison, the fog lights on the standard model are round-shaped.

It also adds a two-tone lower bumper and a strip of LED fog lamps that replace the round units of lesser QX70s. The side-mirror housings and rear combination lamps get a dark-finish treatment, while the vents in the front fenders are painted body color instead of the usual black. Unique 21-inch multi-spoke aluminum wheels with a painted finish wear 265/45 all-season V-rated tires, and the rear hatch gets a “Limited” badge to let fellow motorists know you roll fancy.

The QX70 Limited also comes with other excellent features available on standard QX70 models including a large infotainment screen display, a premium sound system and connectivity features. Connectivity features include Bluetooth and Smartphone integration. Its infotainment system supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The vehicle also features a dual-zone climate control and cruise control.

Some things are better with age, like fine wines and art. Some are not, like broccoli and last year’s “it” song. For the 2017 Infiniti QX70, it’s somewhere in between. Considering that it debuted nine years ago when it was known as the FX35, it’s impressive that the current QX70 has maintained its standing as one of the sportier SUVs in the class.

On the sides, you will notice that the side mirrors are darker while the side vents on the front fenders are body-colored. At the back, the vehicle features LED taillights that complement the vehicles gray exterior color. There is a “LIMITED” badge on its rear hatch. Other features are similar to those of the standard model. The QX70 Limited rides on a new set of multi-spoke 21-inch alloy wheels covered in all-season 265/45-series tires.

2017 Infiniti QX70 Engine

Sadly, there are no upgrades on its drive-train. I think Infiniti should have used a V-8 mill for this model.  The model still features the same engine as the standard QX70. The mill is a 3.7 L V-6 which puts up an impressive 325 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission system. Buyers will have an option for either RWD or AWD.

Though the QX70 once offered a V-8 engine, its lineup has been pared to only a 3.7-liter, 325-horsepower 3.7 V-6 that Infiniti has been phasing out of its other models. The 3.7 isn’t as smooth as Infiniti’s newer V-6, but it is torquey and matches well to the standard 7-speed automatic transmission. That gearbox includes a sport mode and rev-matching, further hinting at the QX70’s performance prowess.

The QX70 is arguably best in its base form, at least if you live where the weather is sunny and warm most of the year. Adding all-wheel drive piles on a couple hundred pounds of heft that diminishes its light-on-its-feet feel. Even then, the QX70 rides on performance all seasons tires and would benefit from winter rubber for when the snow falls.

The 325-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 provides strong acceleration from any speed and matches will to the 7-speed automatic that shifts quickly and smoothly. There’s also a Sport mode and rev matching, as well as paddle shifters that are made from solid magnesium on the Sport model.

As for the engine line-up there was a 235bhp V6 diesel, which we are driving here, although the range now consists on Infiniti’s venerable 3.7-litre V6 and a 5.0-litre V8 producing 315bhp and 384bhp respectively.
