2017 McLaren 570GT Changes

McLaren has joined the club of Ferrari and Porsche in making cars that are fully-fledged supercars but specifically tuned for every day driving. The model dubbed the 2017 McLaren 570 GT is specifically designed to provide ultimate luxury. Unlike the hardcore 570 S on which it is based, the 570 GT is targeted to those buyers looking for a supercar they can use daily even to go to work.

An entire industry has emerged to tell rich people what luxury is and how they can spend more of their money on it. Not long ago this was an easy question to both ask and answer for almost any object: Is it made of gold and/or can I encrust it with diamonds? Yet modern moguls are no longer content with mere gaudy excess, and attempts to define contemporary luxury support a raft of publications aimed at those with more money than either taste or time. One recent suggestion we came across in a well-thumbed magazine in a dentist’s waiting room was that “luxury means not having to make compromises.”

A quirky and crotchety former colleague used to describe cargo-challenged sports cars as having enough room for “a swimsuit and a toothbrush.” If he were still reviewing cars, I’m sure he would have relegated the McLaren 570S and its 5.3-cubic-foot cubbyhole of a frunk to that status. But what about the new 570GT the cushier, more practical grand touring version of the S whose fastback design makes room for an additional 7.8 cubic feet of goods?… He probably would have thrown a beach towel and flip-flops into the mix. Heck, maybe even deodorant. Or, had he come to Tenerife, Spain, for the official media drive, he would know that the 570GT’s leather-lined “Touring Deck” aft of the front seats, where those 7.8 cubes worth of space are on display under a glass hatch, can comfortably accommodate a picnic basket courtesy of Fortnum & Mason “Purveyors to the Queen,” pointed out one McLaren official the sort of leisurely lunch owners of $200,000 supercars routinely enjoy.

2017 McLaren 570GT Interior

2017 McLaren 570GT Specs

Below we have summarized some of the reviews about the features of the car exterior and interior 2017 McLaren 570GT. The car is expected to be a comfortable car for the ride by the community.

The exterior look is similar to that of the 570 S. Since its engine is located at the rear, the trunk is located at the front. As such, instead of a hood, we have a front trunk lid which comes with strong crease lines which streamline airflow over the fenders. To further improve its aerodynamics, aero blades below the model’s bumper are angled to create an area of high pressure just ahead of radiators.

To set the cabin apart from its siblings, the automaker has added a McLaren Audio Plus sound system which features 8 speakers, a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system is offered as an option. Due to a modified exhaust system, the cabin is quieter than that of its siblings. There is also an option to customize the interior with either Sport or Luxury specs.

On the inside, the model looks identical to the 570 S. Just like the 570 S, the 570 GT features a new fixed glass panoramic sunroof which is composed of 18% transmission tint.  Further, the roof features a Sound and Solar Film which absorbs solar radiation and acts as an extra insulation. The model is also equipped with an upgraded dual-zone climate control system.

The rear is where much has changed.  The automaker has replaced the conventional, top-hinged tail-gate with a side-hinged glass hatch.  The designers reasoned that a conventional one would have forced them to use an obstructive gas strut. The new arrangement also reduces chances of one accidentally touching the hot exhaust. One can also reach the trunk from the inside by folding the seats forward. This feature affected the vehicle’s aerodynamics and the automaker had to add a slightly taller rear spoiler (10 mm more) compared to the 570 S to recover the aerodynamics.

The roads zigzagging up and down the peak are scenic and silky smooth, so ideal for not only world-class cyclists but also a world-class 562-horsepower, mid-engine supercar. The 570GT weighs around 3,000 pounds about as much as a Honda Civic thanks to lightweighting efforts such as the carbon-fiber MonoCell II and aluminum panels for the hood, fenders, doors, and rear decklid. Hauling a mere 1.5 tons means the 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V-8 and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic can launch it from 0 to 62 mph in an estimated 3.4 seconds and to a claimed top speed of 204 mph. Even at altitude, the car felt silly quick and ridiculously fast. Seeing as the GT is more road-focused than its S sibling, the spring rates are reduced 15 percent up front and 10 percent in back, the brakes come with standard steel discs (don’t worry; carbon ceramics are optional), the interior boasts an extended leather treatment, and, in the pursuit of peace, there’s additional sound deadening, a subtler exhaust tune, and quieter tires featuring the so-called Pirelli Noise Cancelling System.

On the sides, the model still comes with the stylish dihedral doors and smaller air intakes on the rear fenders. To differentiate the model from its siblings, McLaren has used body-colored door inserts.

2017 McLaren 570GT Engine

Under the hood, the 570 GT packs some awesome amount of power. The juice comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.8L, V-8 which produces 562 horses and 443 lb-ft of torque. The juice is channeled to the rear wheels via a 7-speed, dual clutch transmission system. Due to its 81 lbs heavier curb weight, the model is a bit slower than the 570 S.

Straight-line performance is pretty much identical. McLaren says the 570GT weighs 121 pounds more than the S, which makes about as much difference as brimming its tank from empty. McLaren’s decision to equip the cars for the launch event with the optional carbon-ceramic brakes meant that the difference over the 570S, which has those brakes as standard, was even slighter. In factory acceleration numbers the GT is 0.2 second behind at 62 mph (at 3.4 versus 3.2 seconds) and trails by 0.3 second in the sprint from zero to 124 mph (dispatched in 9.8 seconds). The carbon brakes also meant we’re still waiting to tell you how a McLaren feels with the standard cast-iron units—the ceramic rotors feel slightly numb under gentle road use, but they shrug off big stops.

It runs from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds which is 2 tenths slower than the 570 S.  However, the 570 GT has a similar top speed of 204 mph. Just like the 570 S, the 570GT features Normal, Sport and Track modes. The Normal mode is specifically tuned suit long-distance drives.
