2017 Nissan Kicks Release date

Nissan’s global leadership in the crossover segment will be further strengthened by the arrival of the all-new Nissan Kicks. The production Nissan Kicks retains the basic design cues taken from the Kicks Concept – first shown at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in 2014 – and is a stylish crossover built for busy city-dwellers to tackle everything the city can throw at it.

The Kicks is Nissan’s latest crossover offering, and it’s widely based on the 2014 Nissan Kicks Concept that debuted back in 2014 at the Sao Paulo International Auto Show. In essence, the new Kicks CUV is quite similar to the concept, and most of the design cues carry over. As always, the overall design has been toned down a bit because, well, the production models are never as good as the concepts. Major features include a floating roof with a “wrap-around visor,” a comprehensive infotainment system, and best-in-class rear passenger space.

While American and European-based automakers are trying to conquer China with their luxury sedans and crossovers, Nissan is trying to conquer the world with an affordable CUV. The new CUV seeks to unsettle the stranglehold the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3 currently hold of the CUV market segment. The new CUV dubbed the 2017 Nissan Kicks is based on the Nissan Kicks Concept, the automaker showcased in Sao Paulo Auto show in 2014.

“With Kicks, we have developed a compact crossover in the best Nissan tradition, and thanks to the unmatched experience, we have in creating vehicles to meet the needs of car-buyers around the world,” said Keno Kato, corporate vice president, Product Planning, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. “Kicks will offer best-in-class design, convenience and technological innovation. And, it will demonstrate Nissan’s commitment to Nissan Intelligent Mobility. Kicks is a car to confidently take on the city.”

Nissan Kicks sales will begin first in Brazil in August 2016, followed by Latin American left-hand drive markets later in fiscal year 2016. And ultimately, it will be introduced in more than 80 global markets.

To the rear, the design gets even more interesting. The rear hatch has a short overhang that is painted in the same finish as the roof. A black coloration travels from the rear-most edge of the rear doors and across the rear quarter, transitioning into the black tint that surrounds the hatch window. The taillights are also of the “boomerang” style, which is frankly a very odd design that features a wide reverse light at the bottom of the lens. The hatch itself is almost hourglass-shaped, with a profile that slumps inward around the taillights and gets wider toward the bottom. The black cladding from the sides continues around back and covers the entire rear fascia. There is another light-grey insert that runs the width of the rear fascia, with rectangular reflectors mounted below it. All told, it’s a fresh and unique design, and should this model replace the aging Juke, customers should find it a worthy successor, at least in the looks department.

2017 Nissan Kicks Specs

Below we have summarized some of the reviews about the features of the car exterior and interior 2017 Nissan Kicks. The car is expected to be a comfortable car for the ride by the community.

The cabin of the “Kicks” is well designed though the automaker has used rather cheap looking materials. The first feature that captures your attention is the dashboard which Nissan has dubbed the “Gliding Wing”.  The dashboard rim curves around the top of the unit transitioning well into styling lines of the doors. This makes it look like a bubble from the inside. The dash also features rounded HVAC air vents.

Inside, the Kicks is even more interesting. It has what Nissan calls the “Gliding Wing” dashboard, which basically means the rim that curves around the top of the dash transitions perfectly into a styling line on each door’s trim. From an inside perspective, it almost gives the feeling that you’re sitting inside a bubble. The corner HVAC vents are round and come integrated with the dash, creating a hump on the dashboard’s surface. There is also another elevated area of the dash with the instrument cluster and center HVAC vents sitting below.

The exterior design looks like the Concept though it has been toned down for production purposes. To start with, the design still features the signature Nissan’s signature V-motion grille which is flanked by recessed boomerang headlights. The upper parts of the headlights slightly touch the grille. The hood is smooth and features a slight ridge on each side. The front also features fog lights at the extreme corners with an air-dam in between.

On the sides, a body line that starts at the rear of the headlights and runs close to the front door creating a wheel arch kind of feature. Another body line runs at the center of the door up to the front corner of the taillights. Yet another body line runs from the front door to the rear doors and then slants upwards as it terminates at the rear.

At the rear, the vehicle has a short overhang which features the same burnt-orange finish as the floating roof. Just like the headlights, the taillights too feature a boomerang shape. The hatch, on the other hand, has an hourglass-shape where it slumps inwards close to the taillights and then bulges towards the bottom. A black cladding that starts on the flanks extends to the rear covering the rear completely. A light-gray insert runs from one side of the rear to the other and features rectangular reflectors below it. The burnt-orange roof top finish extends to the sides and wraps around them creating a “wrap-around visor” look on the top of the doors.

On the other hand, its instrument cluster is a good mix of old and new. It features an analog needle gauge speedometer and a digital rectangular-shaped digital display for engine temperature, fuel level and other important information of the vehicle. The cabin also features a flat-bottomed, three-spoke steering wheel.

The cabin features a 2-tone color scheme with a light brown theme on seats, dash and on the insert surrounds of door handles. The front part of the console features a leather-wrapped shifter and a storage pocket while the rear part which is placed below the seats comes with a storage compartment, two cup holders and holds the vehicle’s handbrake. Controls for the HVAC system are placed between the center console and the center stack.

2017 Nissan Kicks Engine

Nisan has not disclosed the engine (s) that will drive the “Kicks” as of this writing. However, there are two likely engines. The first is the 1.6 L, turbocharged mill which is capable of producing 188 hp.

So far, Nissan hasn’t given any details about the drivetrain. The only thing we know for sure is that it’s offered with an automatic transmission, given the automatic shifter shown in the official release images. With the Nissan Juke potentially getting the axe, it’s possible that the 188-horsepower, turbocharged, 1.6-liter is hidden under the hood. Alternatively, Nissan could opt for the 170-horsepower, naturally aspirated, 2.5-liter from the Nissan Rogue assuming the Kicks is actually coming to the U.S. market, that is.

It’s a global vehicle that will be sold in 80 different countries, with Brazil being the main focus. That said, it could borrow drivetrain elements from the Qashqai, which would bring 1.2-liter and 1.6-liter gasoline engines, or 1.5-liter and 1.6-liter diesel units. More information will be available closer to the Kicks’ official on-sale date, so stay tuned for additional details.

However, the automaker will use a different engine in case the model will be shipped to the US which is likely considering it is being built in Mexico.  The probable engine is the 2.5 L unit from the current Rogue. It has the capacity to produce 170 horses. Check back later for more updates on the 2017 Nissan Kicks drive-train.
