2017 Opel Zafira Price

Crossover SUVs are tearing into the minivan market with gusto; minivan automakers have had to invest more on the designs and features of their minivan brands to keep them relevant in the changing market.  Despite this, GM is still going strong with their Opel Zafira MPV. The current model has been in the market for 5 years having been introduced in 2011. As such, the update couldn’t have come at a better time. The new 2017 Opel Zafira has received a bit of refresh both on its exterior profile as well as on the inside.

It appears Opel is working on its next iteration of the Zafira. The three-row MPV has been on the market since 2011 in its current configuration, and has grown long in the tooth. While a completely new generation would be welcomed, Opel seems to be only working up a refresh, as seen by these spy shots.

A unique blend of exceptional versatility and optimum comfort has characterized the Opel Zafira ever since the Rüsselsheim-based company revealed its revolutionary integrated seven-seat system in the compact van segment in 1999. Opel has sold around 2.7 million units of the Zafira since, mainly to families and professionals who need a spacious and flexible vehicle for travelling long distances in high comfort. Soon available for sale and delivered as of September, the new Zafira will not only shine with all of the well-known virtues of its predecessors such as the Flex7 seating system, ergonomically-certified AGR front seats, the FlexFix bicycle carrier or FlexRide adaptive damping – it also comes with an attractive new exterior and interior design that emphasizes the spacious ambience and an outstanding connectivity offering. Latest generation Opel IntelliLink infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility along with Opel OnStar (including 4G/LTE Wi-Fi hotspot where available) make sure the Zafira offers optimum connectivity to you, your friends or family while on the road. Furthermore, Opel will introduce full LED Adaptive Forward Lighting headlamps to the segment – to make the classy new Zafira in total a comfortable travelling lounge for its driver as well as its passengers.

The 2017 Opel Zafira is getting a new face or at least that’s the most major part covered by camouflage. It’s hard to tell exactly what changes are taking place, but a few details are recognizable. First, the headlights look to be revised, losing that boomerang design that incorporated the turn signals and fog lights. In a laughable move, it seems the engineers doing the camo coverings though it would be fun to include fake boomerangs. Well, at least if they’re real, they look fake here.

2017 Opel Zafira Interior

2017 Opel Zafira Specs

Below we have summarized some of the reviews about the features of the car exterior and interior 2017 Opel Zafira. The car is expected to be a comfortable car for the ride by the community.

There are eight trim levels to choose from Design, Energy, SE, SRi, SRi Nav, Tech Line, Elite and Elite Nav. All models get the aforementioned OnStar service, alongside the latest version of the Vauxhall’s Intellilink infotainment system. DAB radio, adaptive LED headlights, cruise control, LED daytime running lights, alloy wheels, as well as parking sensors at the front and back are standard on entry-level models.

The new infotainment system will support both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This adds to the model’s 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot which supports up to 7 mobile devices. The model will also feature the new OnStar service. For safety, rumor has it that the automaker has added a forward collision alert with imminent braking, lane keep assist with lane change warning as well as a Following Distance Indication system.

The new Zafira comes with a completely redesigned cockpit, now with a simpler, more elegant layout. The new design not only optimizes forward visibility, but also ensures the display and controls all sit within an optimal reach zone. The screen of the infotainment system that used to sit at the top of the center console has been replaced with a new, lower and integrated touchscreen that allowed for many buttons to be eliminated. The switches are now integrated precisely into the overall design. Framed by a galvanized u-shaped décor, the new 7-inch up-level touchscreen systems have been executed with quality inspired by top-of-the-range tablets. The new, three-dimensionally sculptured steering wheel with the small and efficiently packaged airbag cover is designed to not only look great, but to also put ergonomics in the forefront.

These spy photos offer no views of the interior, sadly, though we suspect Opel will revamp the dash with more modern equipment, technology, and designs. The seven-passenger functionality of the Zafira is expected to remain intact, offering seating for three across in the second row and two across in the third row. The current model offers a second-row center console for Zafira drivers who have more adult passengers. In that case, seating is reduced to six.

Opel will offer two latest generation IntelliLink infotainment systems for the new Zafira. R4.0 IntelliLink will bring the world of smartphones to the travelling lounge, offering both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Furthermore, Opel will offer Navi 950 IntelliLink for customers looking for an infotainment system with on-board navigation. And of course, in addition, Opel OnStar is available in the new Zafira with Automatic Crash Response and many other features including Destination Download (with Navi 950) and 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot where available (enables connecting up to seven devices, one for each of the seven persons onboard). This results in a real plus for family travels or professionals who want to stay as connected as possible during their travels.

Like much of the rest of Vauxhall’s range, the new Zafira Tourer has taken much of its design inspiration from the new Vauxhall Astra that was launched earlier this year. It uses similar headlights and the same ‘double wing’ daytime running lights as seen on the Astra.

That’s certainly true of the dashboard, which no longer has the bewildering array of buttons its predecessor did; most functions are now controlled using the screen and the latest generation of Vauxhall’s IntelliLink infotainment system. It’s compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and comes with Vauxhall’s OnStar ‘concierge’ system that can call the emergency services automatically, download sat-nav destinations and even includes a 4G wi-fi hotspot.

The model we captured doing testing was under camouflage and only little could be seen about its cabin. However, interior sources intimate that the Zafira will have a new dashboard with a modern layout. The center console and instrument panel has been redesigned. The new center console features a larger infotainment system screen with less buttons which results in a cleaner look.

The new generation of the Opel Eye front camera has a positive impact on all the driver assistance functions it supports, including the High Beam Assist of the AFL LED lighting system and the Traffic Sign Assistant. Following Distance Indication (FDI) also utilizes the front camera to detect moving vehicles ahead, whereas Forward Collision Alert provides visible and audible caution alerts when the distance between the car and the vehicle ahead diminishes too quickly. Lane Departure Warning is activated automatically at speeds over 60 km/h and warns the driver, in case the lane is left unintentionally with a telltale in the instrument panel and an audible warning.

The exterior profile features a number of upgrades. At the front, the model will have new headlights. It seems Opel has done away with the boomerang accenting which featured fog lights and turn signals in favor of the styling featured on the Corsa and Astra. The front bumper has also been slightly modified. The grille is also new. For the grille, Opel has replaced the honey-comb looking inserts with horizontal bars. The lower air dam has also been revised.

2017 Opel Zafira Changes

2017 Opel Zafira Engine

As of this writing, there has been no concrete information about the lineup of Zafira engines. From the rumors, the base model will be a 1.4 L. EcoFlex LPG capable of 138 hp. Another engine that will be on offer is a 1.6 L, 4-cylinder engine which is capable of 150 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. The base diesel engine is rumored to be a 1.6 L mill which produces 134 hp.

These are all rumors, but one thing is sure though, the model will come with many alternatives.  Currently, the Zafira is offered in 3 petrol engines, two diesel engines with the larger diesel mill further tuned into five different flavors. The current model also offers an LPG as well as a CNG burning mill. All engines are 4-cylinder units and are transversely mounted.  I expect a similar lineup for the 2017 Opel Zafira.

Just the two engines will be available a 138bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine and a 168bhp 2.0-litre diesel. Both can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox, or in automatic spec. Manual versions come with a stop-start system to help with fuel economy and emissions, meaning that the most efficient version is the manual 2.0-litre diesel. This offers up to 57.7mpg, while CO2 emissions stand at 129g/km, resulting in a £110 annual tax bill.
