When it debuts, the new V90 will be positioned as Volvo’s flagship wagon. The vehicle is set to be unveiled on February 18th but its leaked designs have already surfaced on the internet.  The new wagon is based on Volvo’s scalable Production Architecture (SPA) platform which underpins the S90 and the XC90 SUV. This practically means the wagon will most likely feature similar drive-trains as the S90 sedan which in turn borrowed its power-trains from the XC90.

The V90 is less performance-orientated than a BMW 520d or maybe even an Audi A6 2.0 TDI. The standard composite leaf spring rear suspension – as opposed to the optional £950 adaptive air set-up gives the big Volvo an impressively refined and comfortable ride. But this compliance comes at the cost of body control, with the V90 feeling somewhat wallowy on undulating roads. Push on further, though, and it quickly becomes apparent that the suspension is still adept at coping with multiple inputs.

Upgrade to R-Design and the V90 is adorned with sports seats, LED foglights, a sportier suspension and chassis set-up, 18in alloy wheels and a 12.3in configurable instrument cluster.

2017 Volvo V90 Interior

2017 Volvo V90 Specs

Below we have summarized some of the reviews about the features of the car exterior and interior 2017 Volvo V90. The car is expected to be a comfortable car for the ride by the community.

The V90 will borrow most of its design cues from the S90 sedan and will get an identical interior. However, due to its stretched body, the wagon will have a different rear and a more practical cabin with extra cargo space.

The Cross Country, as you might know, is the raised version of the standard V90 wagon. Which means that instead of the six inches of ground clearance you get on the standard wagon, you get 8.3 inches on the Cross Country. And even though it’s just two inches and some change, it actually makes a huge difference. The Cross Country looks noticeably raised. This is a very excellent thing, especially for wagon-wary American buyers dead set on an SUV of some kind.

There are three trim levels to choose from – Momentum, R-Design and Inscription, while the Cross Country model get its own equipment list. Entry-level Momentum  models get adaptive cruise control, keyless start, LED headlights, automatic wipers and lights, powered tailgate and rear parking sensors as standard on the outside.

Inside there is dual-zone climate control, electric windows, a leather upholstery, heated front seats, Volvo’s safety technology and the manufacturer’s signature 9.0in portrait infotainment system complete with DAB radio, Bluetooth, USB connectivity and sat nav.

The 2017 Volvo V90 will ride on 20-inch R-Design wheels as standard but there will be an option for 21-inch wheels just like with the sedan. Overall, the automaker dropped the boxy design in preference of a sportier roof section that also features a raked rear windscreen.

If you have seen the new S90, then you have seen more than half of the 2017 Volvo V90. The two cars are identical from the nose to the B-pillars. The only physical difference between the two vehicles is on their rear fascias. The front end is as elegant as that of the sedan. It features a large grille accentuated by large and chromed vertical slats. The grille is flanked by swept-back headlights and LED DRLs which look like the Thor’s hammer.

It’s however unfortunate that the model was leaked days before the automakers scheduled release at a special event on February 18th. This means it won’t be a surprise to the automotive world as Volvo would have hoped.

2017 Volvo V90 Engine

The new Volvo V90 2017 will likely be powered by the same engines as the S90 and the XC90. The automaker has already confirmed that all units available for the SUV will also be featured on the sedan meaning the wagon will feature two petrol engines, two diesel engines and a hybrid drive-train.

The base petrol engine is a turbocharged 2.0 L engine known as the T5. The engine is good for 240hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The second petrol engine, the T6 adds a supercharger to boost output to 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The wagon borrows its 2.0-liter turbo/supercharged four-cylinder T6 powerplant from the rest of the 90 range with 316 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque on tap, with an eight-speed automatic transmission sending those horses to all four wheels. For now, the T6 will be the only drivetrain option available to buyers there is arguably little need for the D5 diesel version in the States but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a T8 hybrid down the road. With four driving modes to choose from Eco, Comfort, Dynamic and Off-Road the new wagon has no shortage of settings to play with, even though we suspect stateside buyers will rarely use that last one.

There will also be a plug-in hybrid. The drive-train also referred to as the T8 combines the turbocharged and supercharged T6 engine with an electric motor. The combination produces 410 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. The engine will have a 27 miles range on electric power only just as with the XC90. The engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission system for models in the US.

The engine in the car was a dual-charged inline 2.0L four-cylinder, and put the turbo-only engine in our earlier S90 sedan to shame. Duel-charged means that it’s both supercharged and turbocharged. The belt-driven supercharger provides loads of low-end torque that make the engine feel much larger than it truly is, launching the car aggressively from a standstill as if it had a V8 engine. At some indiscernible point, the supercharger begins to run out of steam but the turbo-charger picks up at that point and propels the engine strongly to redline, seamlessly making the engine feel like twice the engine it really is. It’s a quiet engine but there’s a bit of growl in there, amidst the whistling and whooshing. It’s a rather ingenious solution and is absolutely seamless in operation. Stomp on it and the car runs quickly to it’s 6000 rpm redline, the eight-speed automatic transmission snapping off shifts quickly and smoothly. The AWD drivetrain does a superb job of putting that 315 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque to the road, making the car surefooted and confident. It never slips or seems to lose traction.
