2018 BMW Z5 Specs

While there’s been talk of hybrid technology being used, BMW will likely forgo this to differentiate the Z5 from Toyota’s Supra successor, which has also been spied and is expected to go the gasoline-electric route. Sadly, we’ve heard there’s no plan for a BMW M-tuned version.

The car’s tailgate sports a lip spoiler and features narrow lights, with a central brake light in the middle. Two exhaust tailpipes can be seen poking out from under the bumper.

The 2018 BMW Z5 is believed to be the successor of the Z4. According to rumors, this model is courtesy of the collaboration between BMW and Toyota. Insiders say that the model will exclusively feature a soft roof. The collaboration will also resurrect Toyota’s Supra which will exclusively feature a hard top.

The BMW-Toyota partnership is beginning to take shape with more news about what’s in store from this marriage. Rumors have circulated since the two automakers announced the partnership back in January 2013, a lot of which has been centered on the revival of the Toyota Supra and the development of the next-generation BMW Z4. However, more recent reports claim that the next BMW Z4 won’t be the fruit of the Bavarian automaker’s collaboration with its Japanese counterpart. Instead, it will be a Z4 replacement that will be called the Z5.

2018 BMW Z5 Specs

Below we have summarized some of the reviews about the features of the car exterior and interior 2018 BMW Z5. The car is expected to be a comfortable car for the ride by the community.

Styling-wise, it seems to have a significantly larger twin-kidney grille that sits lower in the fascia. The lowered nose and the bigger grille should provide a more aggressive stance. The headlamps also appear to be larger and, based on recent BMW BMW design updates, they should be connected to the grille’s chrome frame. The front bumper is well camouflaged, but a three-piece outlet configuration with a wider center opening is very likely.

However, the interior will feature a premium aura.  The cabin will have a good layout feature luxurious features. A wraparound dashboard is very likely. A floating infotainment system mounted on the dash is also likely along with a wider center console, a digital instruments cluster as well as sports steering wheel. The seat will be bolstered. Premium leather will be the standard upholstery material. Other surfaces will feature soft-touch materials. The door panels, dashboard and the center console will most likely get aluminum inserts.

The spied prototypes of the 2018 BMW Z5 look quite small in comparison with their test drivers. The car seems to be shorter, wider and taller. This is a rather interesting approach to design from BMW which is most likely not finished at this point. The front end will definitely be dominated by their iconic “kidney-grille” while we may see a rather aggressive styling at the back. The car won’t use a hard-top like some other models in its class. Instead, a soft-top that will open and close in less than 15 seconds should be introduced.

2018 BMW Z5 Engine

Engine options are still unknown, but given BMW’s recent strategy, the base model should have a turbocharged, four-cylinder under the hood. The same unit will probably be available with higher output in an upper trim version, while a 3.0-liter inline-six should motivate the range-topping variant. A high-performance M version could also be developed, but it won’t break cover until around 2018.

Engine lineups are unknown as of this writing. However, going by the automaker’s latest strategy, a turbocharged 4-cylinder mill might be used as the base engine. The top-of-the-range models on the other hand will likely use a 3.0 L, inline 6.

Dubbed the ‘Z5’, BMW’s new sports car will succeed the now-discontinued Z4, and share its underpinnings and most of its engine line-up with the upcoming sports car from co-developer Toyota which could revive the iconic Supra badge.

Further up the range, a 2.0-liter turbo will also be available. This should also become the base offering in the US. The output is still unknown, but we should see more than what the Z4 provided at 245 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The top of the range cars will receive BMW’s already well-known 3.0-liter inline six engine with one or two turbochargers. The output should range from around 326 to more than 400 horsepower and as much as 400 lb-ft of torque. The top of the range version, despite having similar performance to an M car, is highly unlikely to actually receive the M badge which is a bit unfortunate.

Both cars are said to share the same platform, rear-wheel drive, and feature a range of four- and six-cylinder turbo petrol engines under the bonnet. Additionally, the Toyota may offer a hybrid drivetrain, though it’s unclear whether BMW will offer an electrified model.
